210 Local Media Magazine – Issue 1 Vol 1

210 Local Media Magazine
Issue 1 Vol 1

This project started as a blog, a response to a meeting between local band Girl In A Coma and Nelson Wolff, where he declared his mission to help San Antonio become the live music capital of the world. What came of that meeting, either politically or otherwise, I do not know. It did however, inspire me to create 210 Local Media. In March of 2013, I started the 210 Local Music Podcast (later, to become 210 Local Media Podcast), in the hopes that we could be one the helping hands. Three years later, I've gotten to experience some amazing things, all in the name of desire and discovery.
This magazine is the written/digital version of these kinds of experiences.
Our promise to you, is to have you join us on that journey into the San Antonio scene. We will focus mostly on San Antonio, and only turn elsewhere, should the story have any local implications.

This is for San Antonio. This is for our city.

River City Rockfest 2016

River City Rockfest 2016

We were extremely lucky this year, to get in as media for the 2016 River City Rockfest and WOW…. Just WOW. The lineup was outstanding as always, and included Avatar, Red Sun Rising, Pop Evil, Bullet For My Valentine, Hatebreed, Devil Driver, The Sword, Disturbed, POD, SixxAM, Sevendust, Megadeth, Scorpions, and local favorites, Donella Drive, Lynwood King Revival, and The Heroine. Between our resident sound guy, assistant artist manager, and promotions guy Roland and I, we couldn't hit all of the bands, and even passed out for one of my favorites, The Heroine. We did the best we could in the scorching Texas heat, for over nine hours, on our feet most of the day, and loving every bit of the media pits in front of the stages. Personally, I was there to see Scorpions, Megadeth, Donella Drive, The Heroine, and SixxAM, so four out of five ain't bad. Much love to The Heroine, and a tremendous amount of sadness for missing you guys on stage. Here's hoping you guys get in for another amazing year of River City Rock Fest! The event was chock full of food trucks, beer, music, passed out people on the floor, skimpy outfits, sweaty dudes, ear plugs, and tons of merch, and was the best concert experience ever, thanks to The AT&T Center and Spurs Entertainment allowing us to cover the event with media passes. There were over 27,800 in attendance, surpassing last years show and proving that San Antonio rocks and is always ready to party. Below are just some of the shots we got from the show. Enjoy!

Episode 72: Mario’s TOP 100 (50-26)

Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. We’re continuing with the next group of 210 Local Media’s Top 100 songs. More appropriately, they’re my top 100 pics and they’re grouped in 4 sets of 25, and in each episode, they’ll be presented in alphabetical order. The qualifications are that they are/were local, played a song I like, and have either sent me music or have made their music available to me. Some bands will be played more than once as we get higher on the “chart”, some bands are totally absent because of the lack of a music release, or because the license to play their music is too expensive. By and large though, we’ve got the bulk of it here. Thanks to all of the musicians that have made this podcast possible, thanks to those who have made getting a hold of music, releases, or promo stuff easy, and thanks to YOU, the listener, for continuing to listen and make me feel that this is a worthwhile venture. I hope to accomplish a lot more in 2016, and I hope you enjoy my top 100 local songs.

Episode 52: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 3

Episode 52: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 3

Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast and the last day of our Local Music Week 2015 episodes.

This will be our last Mixed Tape for the Local Music Week series, but we will keep going mixed tape episodes in the future like we always have. Our first track is Slowlikefire’s “With Envy” from their new album City Of Echoes. These guys are primed for success. With that, for those who are not already following us on social media, you probably don’t know that 210 Local Music, a subsidiary of 210 Local Media, is now an indie record label and artist management company! I’m very excited to share that our first artist signing to our artist management division, is Slowlikefire. Slowlikefire recently signed with El Paso Indie Record label, DKD Records. We’re hoping this will bring more notice to Slowlikefire, DKD Records, and 210 Local Media and everyone we know and love. You can find Slowlikefire on www.slowlikefire.com, on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and pretty much all over our 210LocalMedia.com website.

After that, we’re proud to bring you one of my favorite songs from Rumors, “Pillow”. Rumors recently parted ways with their singer and have started auditioning new singers during the last week or so. We here at 210 Local Media believe heavily in Rumors and ex-singer Michael Christopher’s side project, now full time project, You And I Under Water. Keep up with us as we follow both with their progress.

Another of our favorites is Donella Drive, with another single off of their recent EP Anomalous, “Alone With The Devil”. We can’t say enough nice things about this band. They hugged me when we did their interview a couple of months ago, so that’s where the loyalty comes from. Be sure to follow them everywhere as /DonellaDrive or @DonellaDrive.

You heard the second release from the hardest working band in Texas a couple of episodes, but now we”re bringing you The Heroine and a track off of their first full release with, “Ballad Of Lenny King”. Keep up with us and The Heroine, we’re hoping to nail down an interview soon!

Next up, we’ve got our old friends, Hydra Melody and a song from their much anticipated next album. “Honey” has been out for a bit, but the guys are really keeping the new album under wraps. As soon as we hear more, we’ll let you know!

If Hydra Melody had brothers in a different band, they would all be in The Sound Of Curves. We’ve played “Gone Gatsby” for you a few episodes ago, but we wanted to bring you their song “Rumors” today. These guys have a strong pop sensibility and we look forward to hearing more great music from them soon!

I met our next musician at the first Local Music Week meeting and have kept up with her since. We’ve gotten an interview with her ready to go soon, so follow and subscribe so you don’t miss out. San Antonio’s own Merilette recently made a splash with her album release, Mindpaint at Jack’s Patio and has been non-stop since then. Here’s Merilette with her song, “Comfortable Love”.

Our next musician is Storm Calysta with her track, “Hero”. I really think that this track could be on the relaunch of The Never Ending Story, should they ever do one.

Finally, we leave you with a group of amazing musicians, Aliens WITH Halos and their song, “The Source”. We’ve been working on an “In The Studio With” episode and hope to have it out next month. Luckily, you get a little teaser since we’re going to cover this exact track.

This is the last day of local Music Week and you can relive the week on social media if you use #LMW2015 Thanks to Local 782, SATX Music, and Do210 for being the primary organizers behind this years Local Music Week. Check out Do210.com for a very inclusive calendar of events for the local music in San Antonio, Texas. Next year, I’m hoping to not be sick at all and actually make it out to most of the events compared with none this year. Either way, thanks for listening and if I don’t die, we’ll see you here soon!
