210 Local Media Magazine – Issue 3 Vol 1

Yay, it’s an Editorial! – Issue 3 Vol 1

I started the 210 Local Media Podcast
after purchasing my first iPhone back in 2013, and discovering the Stuff You Should Know Podcast, Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, and several podcasts about podcasting. I noticed that each show either had information to share, or a special type of bond with peaople that they shared, and that the form, really was like no other. I quickly became inspired to mix my love of local music, with the newfound awesomeness of podcasting. At the time, there were only a couple of San Antonio Podcasts; The Unavoidable Drudge, and The BoozedCast (both have podfaded for now). Admittedly, my first few episodes were plagued with sound issues, crazy podcasting scheduling, and finding people that were available and wanting to be interviewed.

Since then, we’ve been able to play mixed tape episodes, interviews, and entire albums on the podcast, put on two benefit shows, and helped to raise over $12,000 for a friend with cancer (In remission!). Since then, more local podcasts are popping up everywhere; The Owlcast, She’s Crafty, It’s a Guy Thing Podcast, Geek Culture, Vinyl Pizza, and Texas Music Spotlight, to name a few. So, here we are, and I’m taking advantage of being the guy that says what each issue can/should have. Check out the spread on the local podcasts, and the Alamo City Podcast Network we created to help each other out and gain a much larger footpring in the process.
Thanks for reading, listening, and supporting! – Issue 3 Vol 1

Episode 71: Mario’s TOP 100 (75-51)

Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. We’re continuing with the next group of 210 Local Media’s Top 100 songs. More appropriately, they’re my top 100 picks and they’re grouped in 4 sets of 25, and in each episode, they’ll be presented in alphabetical order. The qualifications are that they are/were local, played a song I like, and have either sent me music or have made their music available to me. Some bands will be played more than once as we get higher on the “chart”, some bands are totally absent because of the lack of a music release, or because the license to play their music is too expensive. By and large though, we’ve got the bulk of it here. Thanks to all of the musicians that have made this podcast possible, thanks to those who have made getting a hold of music, releases, or promo stuff easy, and thanks to YOU, the listener, for continuing to listen and make me feel that this is a worthwhile venture. I hope to accomplish a lot more in 2016, and I hope you enjoy my top 100 local songs.

Bitforce – Dead Walking
The Black Market Club – Castles
Blackbird Sing – Friday Night Lightning
Built For The Future – Build For The Future
Celeste’al Descent – Sweet Sarah

Episode 60: Listeners Choice SUPERMIX

Episode 60: Listeners Choice SUPERMIX

Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I’m your host, Mario Zamarron. I know most people celebrate 50 episodes, but we were in the middle of Local Music Week, and I didn’t want our milestone to overshadow the theme of the week. So, we’re doing it now. We’re celebrating 60 episodes. In less than 3 years, we’ve managed to develop a global audience, we’ve conducted 17 interviews, played over 30 episodes of almost pure music, played over 18 entire albums from beginning to end, we’ve done a benefit concert for Toys for Tots, we’ve attend the Alamo City ComicCon twice (soon to be thrice), we’ve been able to get media access to other events, and we've connected with so many musicians, artists, filmmakers, and entertainers.

We’re so happy at what we’ve accomplished within 60 episodes, but like any artist, we’re hungry for more. Right now, we’re trying to at least make the top three finalists in the San Antonio Current’s Best of Music issue. We’ve conducted some more interviews and plan on even more moving into the next 60 episodes. We’ll soon launch our Patreon crowd funding page to help with the rising costs of being a podcaster and give people the opportunity to gain access to Patreon only content.

Recently on Facebook, I asked for audience and music community feedback on who we should play on this 60th episode. Without further ado, here are the musicians and bands that have been requested via Facebook and our 60th episode, Listeners Choice Supermix.

Slowlikefire – With Envy & I’ve Come To Set The Record Straight
WAXPANEL – Believe & Dying Inside
The Heroine – Who Do You Love
Langton Drive – 0509
Remanon – Justice Paige
Silent Minority – Show Me Love
My Madness – I’m The One
Octahedron – Endgame
Celeste’al Descent – Sweet Sarah
Rain On The Aftermath – Rosalee
The Uprising – The Walls
This Is Where Two Oceans Meet – Survival Is My Spirit Animal
Levees – Your Spell
Fishermen – All My Love
Sandoz – Pinch
The Akuzma – Rock Me Amadeus

Episode 50: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 2

Episode 50: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 2

Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast and day five of our Local Music Week 2015 episodes.

This is our second mixed tape of the week and we wanted to mix in some old friends and some new friends.

First up, we have some friends we recently reunited with at the Slowlikefire City Of Echoes Release show, Secrets & Irises with “Golden Circles” and Langton Drive with “0509″. Right after that, we follow the punk vibe to some classic San Antonio punk, Nada Mas Basura with their self titled track. Up next, we’ve got some new friends we met up with at a Local Music Week meeting a few weeks ago, Days That End In Why and their song, “Trick Silver Linings”. In true throwback Thursday fashion, we’ve got a band who is no longer in the San Antonio scene, but left it’s mark regardless, Viet Ruse with “Point Of View”. Thanks to another Local Music Week meeting, I finally got to meet Nathan Alvarado from Remanon and wanted to play “Justice Paige”. Even though we already played this song recently, they’ve got their show tonight and I just wanted to make it fresh for y’all. A last minute addition made it in with Fallout and their song “Hell To See”. They’re having their first show as a band at Bond’s 007, tomorrow night! Up next, we’ve got The Native Roar and their track “Dangerous Ways”. I totally dig their vibe, very tribal/alternative. Calming things down a little bit, is Dylan Tanner. I met Dylan at the first Local Music Week Meeting at Brick in The Blue Star Arts Complex and was immediately impressed, he’s a really nice guy and we’re proud to feature his lyrics on our site at www.210LocalMedia.com/lyrics There, you can find the lyrics to his song “Me”. Last but not least, to continue the chill vibe, we’ve got Julian Gill. I met Julian a while back where he played a short opening spot set at Jack’s Patio and I think he’s another very talented young guy to keep an eye on. We’ve got his track, “Harder Than Wine”.

This is day five of local Music Week and there’s plenty more that you can find all over social media if you use #LMW2015 Thanks to Local 782, SATX Music, and Do210 for being the primary organizers behind this years Local Music Week. On Thursday, May 21st, our friends Remanon and Verisimilitude will be playing at the 502 Bar. On Friday, May 22nd, our friends, Blackbird Sing will be playing a show at the famous Sam’s Burger Joint. These are only a couple of the amazing events going on during Local Music Week. Follow us on on all social media and we will do our best to share anything and everything. Also, check Do210.com for a very inclusive calendar of events for the week, and for the future. As always, thanks for listening!
